Three Things I Hope You Do This Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you enjoy a wonderful day, filled with family, friends and food. May you take pleasure in the gifts God has given you, while setting aside time to thank Him for how good He has been to you. With all of the evil going on in the world around us, it might be hard to take a whole day and be thankful for all of the good, but there is so much to be thankful for, so here are three short things I hope you do to make tomorrow a great Thanksgiving.

1. Embrace Those at the Table around You.

God has placed the people you will be eating with tomorrow in your life for a reason. You might not get along with everyone at the dinner table, but they are there for a purpose; embrace them. I don’t mean physically, but embrace them emotionally and spiritually. Ask them questions about their life. Seek to take an interest in them, and look for any opportunity to talk about the gospel. Either many people will be flocking into your house, or you will be the guest; whichever it may be, be the one who is willing to listen, ready to talk, and seeking to embrace.

2. Sing Praises to God.

For some reason, we think it’s a requirement to talk politics on Thanksgiving. Here’s a challenge for you: talk about God’s goodness instead of Trump’s tweets. Praise the name of the LORD instead of defaming the name of a politician. Let tomorrow be a day of celebration unto God. Sing a song of thanksgiving with your family, or read a psalm of praise before the meal. Make Thanksgiving a day of thanksgiving.

3. Make Memories

You won’t have these moments forever. You won’t be around your loved ones every year of your life, so enjoy every second you get. Put your phone away; Facebook will still be there on Friday. Talk to the people who came to enjoy the day with you. Laugh with Grandma, play games with your crazy little cousins, watch football with Grandpa, and help Mom in the kitchen. God has blessed you so much, so make memories, and enjoy the time you get with the people you love.

“O praise the LORD, all ye nations; Praise Him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: And the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.

Praise ye the LORD.” –Psalm 117
